The STX Hammer is the best overall defensive head coming into the 2015 season. The strength and durability that this head provides is unbelievable. Not only will this head inflict a lot of damage to your opponent, but it is able to withstand a heavy workload as well. STX added two screw holes on the back of the throat to prevent jiggle from erosion.

This head was designed for the strongest and most aggressive players that play the game who usually break a few lacrosse heads per season. With STX’s C-Channel technology the Hammer is able to maintain its shape and make it through a physical season.

With an average weight of 5.6 ounces the STX Hammer delivers powerful checks with devastating results. There is no question that the STX Hammer is the most popular defensive head and that is why it is used primarily by the best collegiate and MLL defenseman.

My Favorite Lacrosse Head

I just got the head a couple weeks ago for my birthday and have used i for two tournaments and a couple practices. The head is still as stiff as it was the day I got it. I am getting another one for a back up for the spring high school season.

stx hammer u great head, better scoop

I enjoyed this head very much, and much improved from th x10 and proton u.Perfect to pock check, slap check, and ground balls.

Best Defensive Head-to-Date

Finally a company has come out with a well made head for any defensive player. It is hands down the best head for defenseman to date. Dont have any issues with this head. Like everything about it.

Super stiff

Best Defensive head out, period

This is by far the greatest head out for defense. And this is not biast this is just truth. My previous head was the Brine Edge X which was great, nice pinch for when I go on LSM and nice dip on the top for ground balls, but still stiff for when I need to dish out some nasty poke checks. Also have used the X10 by STX which is very nice as well as the Proton U and Brine Blueprint, but nothing compares so far to the Hammer. Its SO stiff, its ridiculous. It bends just slightly to give it some relief so it doesnt snap. Isn,t as pinched as the Edge or Blueprint, BUT it is a defensive head so its wide to get those interceptions off of passes around crease.I have zero complaints about this head, it is a little hefty compared to others but really, like couple ounces? If thats an issue hit the weight room. If you have the money buy this, you will NOT be dissapointed.

amazing head!!!

I use this for defense. I have a Maverik H2 on the bottom and couldnt be happier. There are no issues with this head but I would only reccomend this for defensemen who know what they are doing.

Best Defense Head Ever!!!!

I would recommend this head to any person who plays defense. I would not recommend this head for attack or mid. because it does not bend. It is great for defense. It doesn't bend which is a good thing for defense player. The head is really though so when you hit someone, it hurts!!!! This is by far the best lacrosse defense head I have ever had!!!!!

Review by Defenselaxbro (Posted on 10/25/2016)

Best defensive head any brand has made so far!!!

Review by Matt (Posted on 10/25/2016)
best head ive ever owned

Without question the best head for defender.

Review by bro of bros (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Best d head ever

Really easy to pick up ground balls with. When I throw a poke check it throws the attack men off. If you are in high school I would really recommend this head. It slightly bends but is really stiff and strong.

Review by Lax master (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Don't waste your time or money

3 weeks of pre season and its bent completely out of shape that I can't even throw a poke check with it. For a head thats supposedly designed for defencemen I would highly reccomend anything else, waste of my hard earned money.

Review by NevaB (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Best d and lsm head

I play defense and lsm and it is the best, throws the attack off on a check or poke

Review by Mike (Posted on 10/25/2016)

I am a defender and this a great head for all defenders.

Great Defence Head

I've gone through MANY heads trying to find that perfect one and now I don't need to look any further than the Hammer.
In my style of play, I send many hard quick checks and I expect a lot out of my heads. The only issue that I have had is that in my first game with it, it warped a little bit to the left but other than that I hav never been more satisfied with a single head.
If you dont know which to choose and are leaning back and forth between this and another head, choose this head! you wont regret it at all.

Review by LAXACHUSETTS FOR LIFE (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Great defensemen head

This head is great. For defensemen that are looking for a head that wont break on them. Also, if you're a stringer, its easy to string. This was the 2nd head that Ive strung and i found it to be easy. But, with a few shafts it is very hard to put on and off, but manageable.

Review by That one guy with the d-pole (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Best Defensive Head on the Market !

This is without a doubt one of the best defensive heads on the market today. It is tough and perfectly engineered for a longpole defender; a wide headed-non-wraping bulky head that is yet light and (depending on how you string it) very performant.

Review by Carbo (Posted on 10/25/2016)
The BEST defensive head on the market!

I am on a high school varsity team in Texas. Last year, I was breaking lacrosse heads so quickly that it was frustrating. I play low defense and I wanted something ridiculously strong. My friend recommended the Hammer U. So I got it and I've had it for over a year now, and its still holding up, and no warping. This head has redefined what I can do on the field because I am not afraid of breaking it. Best investment ever in a head

Review by Tyrone the Texan (Posted on 10/25/2016)

Works amazingly!!!!!!!!

Review by Cole (Posted on 10/25/2016)

It is an amazing head, would recommend to any defensive lacrosse player.

Amazing D head

I play U15 defense and am really aggressive. This head works great for giving a hard, direct, and painful check

Ground ball machine

I am an lsm and this head is amazing for it. Its almost unfair how easy it is for me to get gbs,had a lot of"how did he come out with the ball moments, smooth releasing and I can go through the opponets head, best head I've ever used. It can throw wicked checks and maintain its form.My only complaint is that I faceoff a lot for my team and its nearly impossible to do. But I guess it wasn't meant for that. Definitely a solid head.

Review by That one LSM (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Solid Solid Solid

Fantastic head. I moved from a Revo, and liked it even better. It's stiff, its great for ground balls, it's even good for facing off! The one problem I ecountered is that afer throwing a seasons worth of poke checks, it got slightly warped. Othe than that, it's been a fantastic head.

Review by Captain CrossChek (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Great DEFENSIVE head

This head is my baby. I have it on 2 out of my three my D-poles. Not on my LSM stick I has a Evo 2 on my LSM great pinch but too flexible to play defense. Bottom line best defense head but don't run through the attack men on middy back play

Review by Attack Stopper (Posted on 10/25/2016)
My Head of Choice

I play close D, and this is my head of choice. Like most of these other reviews, the first poke i threw with it, it bent slightly to the left, but i bent it back in place and it has been fine ever since. Its a little on the heavier side, but thats not an issue. I love the two screw holes, because I hate when my head starts to rattle. That's never an issue anymore. I have it strung up with 3 straight across and passes of any range are easy. Great head and i would recommend it to anyone.

i play lsm and sometimes close d and it has been perfect when u string this stick properly it can have nice hold and a bit of whip AND AWESOME FOR GBs

Review by jim the runner (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Really good head

The head is one of the best heads I have ever had a proble the best head for picking up gbs always gets them over all it starts to warp after a season unless you use a softball in it to prevent it

Review by Lax bro (Posted on 10/25/2016)

The head is way to wide. I have a mid pocket of east coast mesh, and it has almost no hold. With that, I would suggest to get 6 diamond ecm, 2 v's and 1 straight, and a high or low pocket (High pocket has more hold).

Review by NOT BALD LAXER (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Very Nice Indeed

This head is sweet! It catches and throws like butter! Its a heck of alot better then my old head! It also is very sturdy it has a nice ruff finish on the outside unlike most heads!

Hammer U Review

This has been my go to head for years and will continue to be for the rest of my lacrosse career. Recommend to all lacrosse defensemen.

Review by Dylan the Defenseman (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Very good head

I play middle defense and LSM and this is great for defenses but that's all it's good for. You can use it for LSM but it doesn't shoot all that well. As defense you poke check and slap check it's very tough and I cant say anything bad about it for defense

Review by Big D (Posted on 10/25/2016)
best defensive head you can buy

all of my buddies that play d pole have recommended this as the best head they have used... stringing and sturdiness....

Review by Greener169 (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Fantastic Head For Close D

Head is awesome for close D, and any rigorous play. Pinch is great on the head. Head makes stringing easy, and overall a fantastic head.

Review by Dillon the Laxer (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Great defensive head

Great head for the money. head can warp easily in the heat and with wear

Review by Tutter (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Great Defensive Head

This is a GREAT defensive head for any player. I only use the Hammer. My only problem is that it gets warped rather quickly. I am on my 3rd Hammer because of the warping issue. Other then that it is a great head for Games, Big Games, Practice, Messing Around, or whatver you use it for!

Review by Trev the Lax Player (Posted on 10/25/2016)
STX Hammer

The STX Hammer is a great defensive head. Although it is very Bulky and has a lot of weight. The design of the head allows it to be very customizable. It has a wide head which comes in useful for interceptions and ground balls. It's very sturdy for the large checks and can handle aggressive play style. So far I have not had a problem but the neck seems a little weak.

Review by Anonymoose (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Works as advertised

Used for indoor preseason, HS Team and Summer Travel League.

STX Hammer U Lacrosse Head

It is my third lacrosse head and it looks and performs great! I'm proud to play with this head!

Review by The Freight Train (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Great head

No problem with this head expected for it shows signs of stress cracks near the throat

Review by California Republic lacrosse (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Beast for the Defenseman

I use this head all the time and it is the best head I have ever used. It was my third defense head and i have not changed since it came out. it is a freight train of a head, as it is stiff, strong, and heavy. The downside is that it is a tad heavy to maneuver. Also, it warps easily after consistent use.

Review by Will (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Very good head

I use this head on my d-pole and it has worked great. It is very stiff and really bothers attckmen when they are trying to get to the goal. I recommend this head for defencemen who want to take their game to the next level.

Review by Jay (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Don't get this head.

Worst defensive head ever. I used this for 3 games and threw about 10 pokes. The scoop caved in and is very warped. It is not stuff at all go with the tank.

Review by Goon (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Not very good

I really loved it when i first got it it was really stiff and threw great but maybe like 3 weeks haaving it it began to warp and be reslly soft and had an off centered channel just going to one side when it warped.

Review by Schubacka (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Great head for defensive players

I have bought 2 of these heads already and I'm probably gonna get another the head is wide and vey stiff perfect for a defensive player, overall great head for defensive players

Review by Anonamous (Posted on 10/25/2016)

I play LSM and defense and this head is absolutely amazing. It has a wide face for ground balls and it is super stiff and throws some super hard checks. This head is basically a rock on the tip of a shaft.

Review by Isaac (Posted on 10/25/2016)
Good for a year then it warps

I got this head during the spring of 2015 and it was super stiff and durable. It was easy to string and it looked awesome. It could throw really good poke checks but after a summer season and a regular season, the bottom part of the sidewall (where the stringing holes are) started to get pinched weirdly and then the head warped. After about a year of use the sidewall snapped.
