Lacrosse Sticks – Where they Started and Where they are Now

Lacrosse was a sport traditionally played by the Native American Iroquois. They played the game with lacrosse sticks that were wooden and sported a woven net on the end. The ball was made from deerskin, or a knot from an old tree.

These first lacrosse sticks were hand-carved from hickory wood and measured out to around 48 inches in length. Today's lacrosse sticks are much more technologically advanced and are crafted from plastic and other types of approved materials. However, there are still those who play the sport with the traditional lacrosse sticks.

In fact, there are Iroquois artisans who still carve lacrosse sticks from natural materials. One example of this is artisan Alf Jacques. He harvests hickory trees that he then carves out into lacrosse sticks the old-fashioned way – by hand.

Today, there are two types of lacrosse sticks. These are attack lacrosse sticks and defense lacrosse sticks. Each type of stick has a slightly different webbing and size of head. You can purchase these as complete lacrosse sticks or you can purchase parts of lacrosse sticks and put them together yourself to create a customized lacrosse stick.

The lacrosse sticks shafts are made from several different types of material including titanium, aluminum, and graphite. These are sticks designed to be extra light. Thus, they reduce shaft weight and increase the amount of strength the player can put into passing the ball.

If you are looking for the most technologically advanced lacrosse sticks on the market, you're going to want to check out LacrosseMonkey.com. Here, you'll find complete sticks, lacrosse sticks shafts and lacrosse heads. They also offer a number of options when it comes to creating your own personalized lacrosse sticks.
